Emersen’s family rushed him to the emergency room on February 3rd, with an unknown mass in his abdomen. It was soon diagnosed as Stage 4 hepatoblastoma.
After months of chemotherapy, doctors performed a liver transplant. His mother served as the donor. Post-transplant, he battled through several more months of chemo and had finally finished treatments.
Emersen’s prognosis appeared encouraging. Unfortunately, on Nov. 10, Emersen underwent a PET scan after doctors discovered two new masses. The scan results were much worse than expected. There are masses both inside his new liver and around his kidneys.
